Samsung LED 7000 .MKV issues

I've been playing around with .MKV's on this TV and have run into a problem. It will play the sound and video but it can't seem to run the 'soft subs'. Translators sometimes add these to MKV files to help non-native speakers know what's going on and they can be switched on and off. Actually, I've seen some that have the various audio tracks as well. Anyway, every time I try to run one of these files, I cannot seem to find the option to run the subtitles. Are there any additional codecs that could be installed/updated? Maybe a firmware update? Or am I just plain out of luck? Thanks!

weotu,

The formats all have the option of encoding one subtitle file within the container. I believe if the subtitle file is present in the container, it will be shown regardless as part of the file, and this usually depends on the encoding.

The options for more subtitles (and I can't say I'm familiar if "soft subs" falls under this or not) falls more into the "out of luck" category. That may not be the answer you were hoping for, but does that help?

It seems there 'so many out of luck' there. Is it that hard for Samsung to support subtitles?

It is a big deal for a lot of people including myself. I download a lot of .mkv files and the only reason they do it like that is to give the viewer the option of not showing the sub if they want to.
I have a Samsung PNP 50" 7000 series and it is a pain not being able to show the subs. BTW, there is only 'ONE' sub file in the .mkv file I'm trying to play and it does not show up.

" BTW, there is only 'ONE' sub file in the .mkv file I'm trying to play and it does not show up."

When that fails, you need to put the file external to the mkv.
