Is it possible to replace 2011 HP dv6t qe optical drive with HDD

Can it be done? Has anyone else done it yet? Can you recommend me a caddy that i should use. If anyone does plan to do it, then it would be great if he/she would make a video to help n00bs like me.

I just ordered a 2nd drive caddy for my dv7 from them.

Or you could check ebay but I wouldn't if I were you.

OP, I have that exact caddy, and I'm looking to sell it. If you want it, PM me and we can work out a price.



Swapping out the optical drive is pretty simple. You just need to make sure you have the right screwdrivers. Make sure you have size 00 and 000 screwdrivers as the screws to secure the hard drive to the caddy are very tiny and easy to misplace. Getting the ODD out of the system should just be a matter of removing one screw from the bottom of the chassis and gently removing it.



As said above, the process is pretty straight forward.

How much does the optical drive weights ?

I have no need for extra hd, nor optical drive, I might take the optical drive

out all together, to get the wight of the laptop down a bit.

@saturnotaku why do you want to sell the caddy, did it have some compatibility problems? I have the exact same laptop as you(6xxx series) and wanted to make sure that it would work with the newer models. I knew that nemodeUS caddy but i wanted to make sure it'd work with the newer SB models, has anyone tried it yet?

If you check my signature, you'll see that I don't actually have the system yet. The caddy I have is from my former MSI system. The part number is exactly the same so there should be no compatibility issues with the HP. You should have no trouble popping out the optical drive and simply putting the empty caddy in there. It's also designed to accommodate the original optical drive faceplate so you don't ruin the aesthetics of your machine. I'm selling mine because I don't need it any more.

If the part number is the same there shouldnt be a problem, considering that almost all optical drives share the same form factor, the only thing that is generally different is the screw layout.



If you want to play it safe go with newmodeus other wise you might get a deal from saturnotaku.
