LN46C670 - HDMI1 port?

A few weeks ago, I got a new tv (LN46C760).. I like it a bunch.. Now I am upgrading some of my other AV equipment..

I replaced a regular DVD player with a Samsung BD-C5500 Blu-ray player (on sale @ BB)

I am confused as to the function of the HDMI (port 1) on the TV. It states that if you are using a DVI connection (like from a computer), you must use the HDMI1 port. Does that port also act as a regular HDMI port?

I ask this question because when I play a blu-ray disk on my 5500, if I use HDMI4, I get 1080p. If I use HDMI1 (dvi), the best I get is 720p.

Do I have a defective tv, do I have a setting wrong, or is HDMI1 dedicated to a dvi connection and does not function like the other (3) HDMI ports?

barryware,

Congratulations on your new TV.

So here's how the HDMI ports work. Each of them will support HDMI functionality.

DVI doesn't carry audio, like HDMI would. So if you were to use a DVI input, you would need a separate audio signal from the source And a place for that audio to go.

Here's an example showing that if you had DVI, you also need to carry and the audio separately. The HDMI-1 port would be the only port that would be able to use a different connection for the incoming audio.

It should function like other ports. If it doesn't, you may need to rename the inputs by going to:

Menu > Input > Edit Name > "Blu Ray" or other devices. For a DVI device, try "DVI" or "DVI PC".

Does that help?
