Cf-29 Screen ID

Hi Guys!

Well the CF-29 Touchscreen I rashy bought turned up. Need to split the LCD toget to the screen so I could hook it up to the CF-74. The bad news is looks like it is not a TS! The potentially good news is that it has the exact LCD that I was looking for! The TMX133XGA0301-01. So subject to the LCD working, I might be able to achieve my goal of a functioning CF-74.

So just to check. There is no TS PCB on the LCD although the cable is there. The other side of the LCD is just a plastic panel the outside of which is quite badly discoloured with a sort of blue tint. Some pics below.

As I have paid a premium for a TS, I will have to get back to the seller to re-negotiate the deal. So can some one cast an experienced eye over the pics and confirm that it is indeed an ordinary non-TS screen assembly that I have.

Cheers!

It looks like a non touch to me.

Reply 2 : Cf-29 Screen ID

Yep, does look that way! No TS PCB and no glass panel with the connector = non touchscreen! Actually, the plastic panel on the bezel has a purplish tint to it when reflecting light. Some antiglare coating perhaps. Seems to be badly scratched.

The screen looked mint. I carefully hooked it up using the original cable from the CF-74 and the inverter. The backlight came on and is adjustable in brightness but no Bios screen or the Panasonic blue screen or the Setup white screen when pressing F2. To eliminate the connections I reconnected the old damaged screen and can see in the corner that it displays the black Bios screen, the Panasonic blue screen can also be seen and pressing F2 brings up the white Setup screen. The computer displays on an external monitor.

I don't think its possible to hook the cables up incorrectly and they were the same for both screens. Is it possible for a screen not to display due to a fault in the LCD itself?

Not having much luck am I?

Reply 3 : Cf-29 Screen ID

Oh well, after a quick search it does look like I have the infamous "white screen" indictative of a faulty LCD. Hopefully the other screen I bought might be able to display so that I can confidently rule out the computer and the connections. Nads!

Non-touch.

PC connected to 2 modems but setup to get internet from one?

Can I have my PC connected to two modem/routers at the same time (motherboard offers 2 LAN ports) but only setup so that it connects to the internet through one of them?

The reason is the following: I have 2 DSL lines, and 2 modem/routers.

I want to have one DSL providing access to the internet to my desktop PC (through modem/router 1), and the second DSL line providing internet to laptop, PS3 and other secondary devices (through modem/router 2).

However, I still want to have everything connected in a home network, so in order to do that I need to have my desktop PC also connected to the modem/router 2.

How can I do that?

I am running Windows 7 x64.

Thanks!

Reply 1 : PC connected to 2 modems but setup to get internet from one?

So if I read this right
Desktop will ONLY go to internet via router 1
Other machines will ONLY go to internet via router 2
Desktop needs access to just the devices attached to router 2 and nothing past it.

First you need different subnets for your 2 routers. Ie 192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/24... or whatever you like.

Everything is setup pretty much standard except your connection on desktop to router 2. On this network interface you want to use a hard coded IP from the subnet assigned to router 2. Do not set the default gateway or the DNS on that interface. Your machine will have 2 ip addresses one on each subnet. Since there is only a single default route it will use that to go to internet but is smart enough to know based on the subnet mask that it can talk directly to your other machines.

If you issue the ROUTE PRINT command from the cmd line you should see both network.

You may have to set options in the bios on some motherboards to allow both to be active at the same time.

If your question is the more standard one we see here of how to actually use 2 internet connections from a single machine that answer is that it is very hard to get to work effectively.

Thank you, that was exactly what I was looking for happy

Network Interference Error Message

I recently purchased a LN55C650 LCD and picked up a WIS09ABGN wireless dongle at Fry's. Setup went smoothly and watched streaming movies on Netflix. Now every time I turn on the TV and try to access the internet I get a "network interference" error. Since going through the setup again clears the error, I do not think it is a router signal strength problem. Lap tops work fine in the same room too. Going through the setup to watch a movie is a PITA. Seems to be a lot of theories about this problem but can anyone tell me the nature of this error? Is the probelm with the TV? Dongle? Software or firmware? Wireless singnal or setting?

Given just this to work with I'd have to write that you need to call up the folk that manage your home network and internet connections.

But you can start at the CNET Networking Forum and the note we have there for Samsung owners at http://forums.cnet.com/7723-7589_102-378511.html?tag=threadListing;forum-threads

This is a ridiculous problem the Samsung televisions have when they have their own internet connections. It takes them forever to log onto the network and they get disconnected incredibly often. It's a big problem.

That the makers also configure your internet connections and validate same. For now this is not inside their support area.

Consumers don't care about that but for now, this is how it is.

Lenovo X220 Topseller Codes

I have been doing some pricing on Lenovo thinkpad X220 and for the life of me can't find any X220 Topseller codes that include the IPS display.

I can find plenty of them for the x220t and the pricing is quite reasonable. I dont really need or desire a tablet.

Can anyone in the know tell me what the outdoor screen actual means. Does that mean the screen is not a touch/pen screen?

The outdoor display does not support multitouch (no touch). Digitizer only. The outdoor display on the X201T was 400 nits bright and had a 500-1 contrast ratio. For some reason, I think the new one is 350 nits but don't quote me on that.

There aren't any current topseller models with IPS unfortunately. The ones that do have IPS is ridiculously overpriced compared to CTO.

Reply 3 : Lenovo X220 Topseller Codes

Yeah its kind of ridiculous. A x220 tablet with IPS is less expensive than x220 simply because the tablet has a topseller code.

I should also add that I use linux and I have not assessed the tablet compatibility yet.

Or all of them

Outdoor: 12.5" (317.5mm) HD (1366x768) TFT color, anti-glare, LED backlight, 300 nits, 16:9 aspect ratio, 500:1 contrast ratio, 1.2% reflectivity, multiple anti-reflectivity layers, IPS, Scratch Resistant Gorilla Glass Display

MultiTouch: 12.5" (317.5mm) HD (1366x768) TFT color, anti-glare, LED backlight, 300 nits, 16:9 aspect ratio, 500:1 contrast ratio, IPS, MultiTouch screen supports pen & five-finger gesture

Outdoor = Pen and maybe a little nicer looking screen (need side by side in people's hands to confirm)

vs

Multi = Pen and Fingers

is what it boils down to. Go with what you would use and best price.

Reply 5 : Lenovo X220 Topseller Codes

Does anybody know if both the outdoor and multi touch have the graininess issue or just the multitouch.

Aluminium, when you get your laptop could you do me a big favour and see if ubuntu live cd/usb boots up and whether the pen and other features work?

I only ask cause you have an N900 with linux so Im assuming your linux literate.

By the time I get it 11.04 should be out, so I suspect all the sandybridge stuff will be fine. I'll probably be running linux mostly in VMs on this one though, since I want to abuse the expresscard port for a gpu dock.

Toshiba NB550D (AMD Fusion)

Is it possible that there is no tread about Toshiba NB550D (AMD Fusion) netbook here?

External Review

I intend to buy one so I searched the threads about it, I was surprised that there is no single one here...

Yeah I was looking at that netbook for a while, ended up going with the cheaper older version (NB500).

There is a large thread about the NB550D netbook here:

Thanx MH, I was surprised that I didn't find any discussion of this innovative and interesting netbook.

Just got XPS 15 spacebar makes noise

Hey

Just got XPS 15 spacebar makes noise, dont know how to explain it but you know the sound it makes generally on old laptops when you press the spacebar.....maybe its kind of loose?

Other keys are sold and dont make noise when pressed....

Someone else have this problem?

Reply 1 : Just got XPS 15 spacebar makes noise

My XPS 17 (L702x) has the same issue, the spacebar is something that really clicks the other keys have a soft click

Reply 2 : Just got XPS 15 spacebar makes noise

I think it has to do with the mechanism that allows the full key length to depress when just one finger is pressing down on one side. Typically there's a metal brace, and its probably the sound of this brace hitting the base.

Reply 3 : Just got XPS 15 spacebar makes noise

put a small piece of paper between the key and the base. It helps a lot

Can you please explain a bit more, as I dont understand. Wouldnt a piece of paper underneath the spacebar make it more hard to press?

Thanks.

Asus G71GX HD Help

I've had my Asus G71GX for almost exactly a year, I bought it recertified off of NewEgg. Yesterday when I woke up I could no longer get Windows 7 64x Ultimate to boot. I've tried multiple things (repairing, reinstalling, loading previous states), but everything ends up taking 100 times longer than you would expect it to (once I get to the Windows 7 installation window, it literally takes a half hour to get to the next screen) and I set it to repair overnight, but when I woke up it was still processing, so I think I'm boned. I've come to the conclusion that my HD is borked. I tried to take out my HD but one of the screws is really stripped, my dad says he can take my laptop to work and use a tool to get it out. Even if this doesn't work, luckily the Asus G71GX has a 2nd HD port, which I can get access to. So I basically have 2 questions:

1. Is the HD likely the problem?

2. Assuming that, where can I get a replacement HD? I've read that I need a Asus brand clip or something in addition to any HD I get. I had planned on buying a SSD a year after getting my laptop anyway to supe it up a bit, so any links yall can provide to a good SSD would be greatly appreciated (120b min please).

Thanks!

Ok, I've found a SSD that is supposedly killer here: Newegg.com - OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTXE120G 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

On the page is says

Quote:

2.5" to 3.5" Adapter Included

The OCZ Vertex 2 Series is specifically designed for notebook computers coming in a 2.5-inch hard drive form factor. In addition, the installation kit includes a 2.5" to 3.5" bracket for matching with 3.5 drive bay to extend the storage of your desktop computer.

Does that mean I wouldn't need an Asus HD caddy? I believe I found the place to order them here:

Hard Drive Caddy

I'm basically ready to buy both of these but will wait for feedback from you guys to make sure I don't make a bad purchase. Thanks in advance.

Found an alternate G73 drive caddy...

You can get a Dell caddy that works for our units that is much less expensive.

If you want to stick with Asus OEM caddy, you can get that if you wish.

Seeing your issues, I think you old HDD is boned.

Time to get 1 caddy, a SSD and a new 7200 rpm hdd.

Thanks for your help. New question: is it possible to to flash and install an OS on a SSD when it is your sole HD?
